The ‘Swift Chair’ project was envisaged as a supercharged design sprint challenge to design, model and manufacture a chair that incorporates the ideals of ‘Lean Manufacturing’ all within 24 hours.Lean manufacturing aims to reduce wastage in both material and time. Therefore the product needed to embrace the two following philosophies:
- Be quick to manufacture- Be deliberately simple
This led to inital ideation and the concept to utlise stocked dowels and seat and backrests that require minimal machining time.

&#60;img width="2448" height="3264" width_o="2448" height_o="3264" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/0aa0ce67594ed165510d684c3e6c7a698da0f640d596894d2eb83a30d3d0e485/IMG_5555.JPG" data-mid="185859980" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/0aa0ce67594ed165510d684c3e6c7a698da0f640d596894d2eb83a30d3d0e485/IMG_5555.JPG" /&#62;

This concept was then modelled and visualised in Fusion 360, resulting in the prototype below.

The chair was designed with ease of manufacture and assembly in mind, and can be machined, fabricated and assembled in a matter of minutes. The seat and backrest are 24mm birch ply, chosen for it’s high strength-to-weight ratio but also it’s compatability for CNC machining. The legs/frame are birch dowels, which can quickly be cut to required lengths with basic hand tools. The GCODE was then produced and the first prototype components manufactured:

The time to manufacture these components was minimal, and the precise dowel slots allow the chair to be assembled using only a wood mallet, allowing the final prototype to be produced.

24 hours on from the initial idea, a fully-functional prototype was produced. This project was a great opportunity to embrace the ‘Just Create’ mentality and encourage quick design decisions and prototyping.</description>

Kittar combines the cognitive benefits of learning through play to enhance the traditional process of learning the guitar.&#38;nbsp;By having the child assemble the instrument themselves, this cultivates a personal relationship with the product which means the child is much more likely to look after it.
The three upgrade packages gradually increase the complexity of the product’s electronics to match the user as they grow. It also provides an incentive to keep learning as the packages are aimed to be purchased a year apart, giving the user something to look forward to regarding learning their instrument.

Intial Sketch Ideation
The initial sketch phase quickly allowed for the generation of ideas. This was useful to see how the lessons learnt in the research phase could be applied to a new approach to learning the guitar.

 The idea selected for development featured a concept to replace the three separate size guitars (1/2, 3/4, 4/4) used when children learn, with one guitar that had three interchangable size necks. This concept would allow for a more personal relationship with the instrument as well as reducing the amount of guitars needed to be purchased during the process of learning.

Above: Ideation sketches and form Development
This page of sketches shows variations of how the concept could appear. These are the first sketches where colour has been applied to some of the component parts, and it began to highlight how this could be used to convey to the user the order and location of all the provided parts.

It also became clear that the simpler the shapes of the components (such as the scratchplate) the more obvious it’s intended location was.

The ‘Wedge’ Furniture Set, in all three configurations.

The ‘Wedge’ furniture piece (Designed in collaboration by Edward Osborne, Charlie Pritchard, Mason Crabtree) caters furniture to the ever-increasing number of temporary living arrangements of renters and students. The research phase of this project Identified that this demographic’s home space was mobile and frequently changing, but their furniture was static and failed to meet their needs.

The Wedge assembly method

The solution was a furniture piece that could be assembled into a multi-purpose cabinet or a shoulder-height wardrobe without the use of any tools or permanet fittings. The furniture was designed to secure together using the rubberised wedges. This allows users to quickly and easily assemble to furniture into a useful form, and if their furniture needs change they can re-assemble the product to furfil their new needs.
In addition, while moving between new housing accomodation, the product can be assembled into a easy to carry case, to facilitate frequent moves and make this process as easy as possibled for the user.

Above: The timeline of a ‘Branch-It’ game.

Branch-It: The structure-building, balancing game played in the woodlands to help us reconnect with nature and improve our well-being.

&#60;img width="1600" height="1200" width_o="1600" height_o="1200" data-src="https://freight.cargo.site/t/original/i/3ade1f9451ec1bfdd2f82c5c81e7e2185705d08b90afd501595c1759a378f1de/GCEYE7813.JPG" data-mid="72699661" border="0"  src="https://freight.cargo.site/w/1000/i/3ade1f9451ec1bfdd2f82c5c81e7e2185705d08b90afd501595c1759a378f1de/GCEYE7813.JPG" /&#62;

Branch-It is a constructive, creative game that can be played alone or in groups. The players have to carefully balance branches using the 'Branch-It' stools to create a woodland structure. The players have to see how big they can make their structure before the upper stool slips and the structure falls.

The players have to bring the 'Branch-It' stools to their local woodlands. The stools are able to slip together so they can be carried with ease.
The players then have to forage in the woods for a supply of branches to build the structure.
The stools are then set up, one balancing on top of the other.
The players/player then take turns placing branches in the stools or across the stools. The turns continue with growing difficulty as the structure grows, until it collapses.

Above: The ‘FoodSnap’ app in use.

This project aimed to approach dieting from a different direction. Instead of counting callories this app promoted a focus on getting a colourful diet. The thinking being that a colourful diet is a more balanced one. The user photographs their meals and the FoodSnap app breaks this image down into a colourful collage. These tiles are then compiled into a larger collage that the user reflects upon and if the collage shows a monotone colour scheme they know they are not getting a varied balanced diet. However, if the collage is full of a variety of vibrant colours then the user can deduct their diet is healthy and balance.

		<description>UX Design

During my time at Ravensbourne University London, I designed a number of UX products and services.
These projects were key in understanding how people navigate digital platforms and how good UX design is self-explainatory allowing users to traverse apps without explaination.
T-VAN

T-Van is a speculative design project, using driverless cars to deliver rental tools. This service fills a gap in the market for cheap, convenient rental tools and reduces unessessary costs of buying D.I.Y tools for jobs that might only be done occasionally.

Van and Tool Box touch points
These images show the T-Van branded van and the tool box that is dropped off upon a successful T-Van delivery. As this project is centered around speculative ‘driverless car’ technology, the Van does not need windows or seats so the vehicle can accommodate more tools.

This project brought Fender’s existing online ‘Mod Shop’ -which allows customers to configure their own custom guitar using Fender’s standardised part- and brought it into a physical store.

The concept revolves around making this process a personal, unique experience by allowing customers to pick out the components parts of their instrument and assemble their perfect instrument.
